Reopening of Zitelle’s Church during Venice Glass Week

I.R.E. of Venice (Institutions of Hospitality and Education) and Fondazione Venezia Servizi announce the reopening to the public of the Church of Santa Maria della Presentazione (well known as”Zitelle”), located on the island of Giudecca, in occasion of Leonardo Nava’s exhibition “Natura e artificio” from 10th to 17th September 2017.

In a dialogue with the sacred building by Andrea Palladio, the glass sculptures of the milanese artist will be exhibited along the aisle, in a scenographic frame created by their own author.

Leonardo Nava’s works are the results of his path of research: he explores the intimate relationship between man and nature, pushing his vision into a field of suspense and poetry, figurativeism and surrealism. His sculptures – bronze roots tensely clinging to blocks of white stone and charred wood, which grow and turn into trees with brightly colored glass clouds – will be flanked by some preparatory drawings and a performance called “Genesi – design and sculpture”, which will show to the visitors the creative phases of his work.

On the occasion of this first edition of the International Glass Festival, Venice will become the showcase for more than 140 events taking place in various venues between the city center and Murano, where the kilns will be open to the public.

The Venice Glass Week is an event promoted by the City of Venice, conceived and organized by Fondazione Musei Civici of Venice, from”Le stanze del vetro” – Fondazione Giorgio Cini, from Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti and from the Murano Promotion Consortium.
